The Friends raise valuable funds for the Hospital from their shop and last year raised over £50,000 for life saving A&E equipment as well as £20,000 more for other valuable projects.  However, the local NHS managers have been given yet another Government scheme to implement which requires the space currently occupied by the Friends.

Unfortunately, hard working volunteers who have supported the hospital since its foundation are being asked to pay the price.

Mark Clarke has been championing the case for the Friends to be given suitable alternative premises and not the trolley service that the NHS managers contemptuously offered them.  Mark has attended a meeting between the Chairman of the Trust and the Friends, has written to Wandsworth Council and asked them to raise the matter and raised the matter repeated with the Trust in private and public forums.

Wandsworth Council’s Health Committee has also brought considerable pressure to bear on the Trust to reverse the decision.

Under the pressure from many local people and organizations the Hospital appear to be looking for an amicable solution. The Hospital have now proposed a possible solution which the Friends are currently considering to see whether or not it is suitable.

If you do visit St George’s do please drop into the Friends Shop, which is in the main foyer, and sign their petition and support their charitable works by buying something.

The Friends of St George’s are one of the main organisations which allows people to volunteer to help support the health service. See here for David Cameron paying tribute to the work of health service volunteers and seeing the good work that they do:
