Boris Johnson and Mark Clarke talking to a local Tooting shopkeeper

Mark Clarke and Boris Johnson meeting local shoppers in Tooting

Mark Clarke and Boris Johnson discussing local issues with a resident in Tooting
Boris Johnson came to Tooting a few days ago to meet with shop traders. Many local traders complained about the high business rates. They are right to be upset. The Government have just done a business revaluation which has seen many local businesses see huge increases. The problem with business rates is that while they are collected by the local Council they are set by central Government. This means that the high tax policy of the Government hits small businesses. Mark and the local Council want these business rates set locally by Wandsworth Council. That would mean that local businesses could benefit from the low tax policies of our excellent local Council.
