Attorney General reviews Kirk Reid sentence
Last month Mark Clarke asked readers of his regular e-bulletin to complain about the miserly prison sentence given to Kirk Reid. Reid was a serial sex attacker who preyed on women in the Balham and Tooting area. He was given a minimum sentence of just seven and a half years despite being convicted of dozens of attacks. It worked out at just 3 months in prison per attack. Mark and others wrote to the Attorney General and asked her to review the sentence.
She has agreed to do so and we await the outcome.
The sentence appeal was covered by the BBC here, by the Telegraph here and you can see Mark on ITV below:
Have you experience of how the police manage sexual assault cases?
Following Mark’s e-bulletin on Kirk Reid, several women came forward to Mark to share their experiences with relation to the Kirk Reid case. As a result, Mark is meeting with the police to make a series of small but meaningful recommendations to them. These include:
- Stressing the importance of keeping victims up to date with developments in cases
- Asking for some changes to be made to the victims interview room in Tooting police station
If you have any thoughts then please contact Mark, in the strictest confidence, on mark@markclarke.net or call him on 0798 468 0005.
