Local MP admits misusing expenses

Sadiq Khan with his Party Leader, Gordon BrownOur local Labour MP made the national news when he was forced to pay back £2,500 for Eid, Diwali and Birthday cards that he had purchased - despite the fact that this is expressively forbidden.  Even more extraordinarily after submitting the receipt the House of Commons turned it down because “Greetings cards” are not a permissible expense.  So he resubmitted the same invoice with the words “Greetings cards” removed and the House of Commons assumed it was a legitimate expense and so paid it.
