Some limited progress on the bus to Fulham – help needed |

Residents have long pushed for a bus up Trinity Road and across Wandsworth Bridge into Fulham. Thousands of local residents have completed Mark Clarke’s petition calling for this.
Following this pressure, Transport for London have made a counter proposal (click here for details) which residents need to give feedback on. They want to make some changes to the 295 which will help the current situation but not totally fix it.
The 295 bus currently runs from Hammersmith, through Fulham Broadway, down Wandsworth Bridge Road, across Wandsworth Bridge and then turn left up York Road and onto Clapham Junction.
Transport for London are suggesting that we reroute this bus so that instead of turning left up York Road it would continue down Trinity Road until it got to East Hill. The bus would then turn up East Hill and go up St John’s Hill to Clapham Junction.
The critical advantage of this for Tooting residents would be that the 295 would then cross paths with the 219. So residents would be able to take the 219 up Trinity Road, then change around East Hill and take the 295 into Fulham. There would no longer be the ‘busless’ gap along the stretch of Trinity Road between the underpass and the roundabout.
The good news is that this proposed change would make things better for local people and make it easier to get to Fulham. It’s also good news that managers for Transport for London are finally listening and trying to meet the demand for a bus to Fulham.
However, it is unfortunate that we still have not got a solution for one direct bus to Fulham and are being presented with an option which will mean that people have to change. We already know how unreliable the 219 bus is, so having to take that bus and rely on a change is less than ideal.
It would be extremely helpful if as many people as possible could formally feedback to Transport for London. It is important that they know that while this is an improvement local people still crave a direct bus to Fulham without changing buses. You can feedback by emailing STEngagement@tfl.gov.uk.
