Waste at St George’s Hospital revealed: “Service Safaris” |
Posted on Mar 19 2010 |
Mark Clarke’s campaign against waste hit the national news this week when the Sun newspaper wrote up a quite extraordinary story about wasteful spending that Mark had uncovered.
This Government have decided that the way to improve service at local hospitals is to send hundreds of staff on junket away days into the West End. Staff amble around the British Museum in the morning, pop into Wagamamas for lunch and then go shopping in John Lewis in the afternoon. The NHS calls these trips “Service Safaris”. Not only does it take up the time of four hundred staff at St George’s Hospital but the running of the programme costs £100,000 a year.
Our country just can’t afford this sort of wasteful spending and our NHS needs its staff focused on their jobs not sent by managers on jollies. You can read the full story here.
